What is the best time to switch?

This depends on your type of energy contract. With a variable or dynamic contract, you can switch at any time. So you can switch immediately when you find a cheaper contract. If you have a fixed contract, you can only switch when your contract is almost over, usually about 6 to 8 weeks before the end date of the contract. If you switch earlier, you run the risk of a cancellation penalty. Fortunately, we have a warning in our comparison tool to prevent this cancellation penalty. If you are thinking about switching but are unsure about your current energy contract, our customer service is here to help.

How long does it take to switch energy suppliers?

You can arrange the transfer request with us in just a few minutes. Before you are actually switched to a new supplier, it takes an average of 6 to 8 weeks. This time includes the 14-day cooling-off period. This is how it works: After your request, you will immediately receive a summary of your request by email from us. Within 2-5 business days, you will receive confirmation by email from your new energy supplier. From the date of this confirmation, the 14-day legal consideration period of your new contract begins. On the start date indicated on your contract, your new supplier will start supplying, and your old contract will be terminated for you. Around the start date, you provide your meter readings to your new energy supplier. Do you have a smart meter? Then you don't have to do anything, as the meter readings are automatically read. Within 4 to 6 weeks after the start date of your new contract, you will receive the final bill from your old energy supplier.

What do I need to do after switching to a new energy supplier?

We’ll send your application to your new energy supplier. This supplier will inform your former supplier about the switch and as a result your former contract will be terminated. Basically, you won’t need to do anything at all.

Do I need to inform my former energy supplier of the switch?

No, that’s not necessary. Your new supplier will do this for you. After switching energy suppliers with EasySwitch.nl you won’t need to do anything else.

I don't know what my consumption is, where can I find this?

You can always find your annual consumption on the annual statement from your (previous) energy supplier. It is helpful to have this at hand, so you do not enter incorrect information and possibly pay an incorrect advance amount. The annual consumption is not always easy to find on the annual statement. You can always find the annual statement in the online environment of your energy supplier, but often they also send it to you by email. If you cannot find the annual statement, you can make an estimate of your consumption in our comparison tool. Enter the number of people in your household, and we will calculate an average annual consumption. Now that you know your annual consumption or let us estimate it, you can easily start a comparison in our comparison tool. Tip: try to keep your annual statement well preserved. The most advantageous contract is based on your annual consumption, and if you enter incorrect consumption, it may well be that another contract is actually more advantageous for you.

How our energy comparison tool works

Using our energy comparison tool is very simple! However, it can be helpful to have all the steps clearly laid out. That's why we explain the use of our comparison tool in 7 steps:

1. Enter your details

By entering your postal code, house number, and any addition, we know exactly for which address you want to make a comparison.

2. Choose your current energy supplier

Select your current supplier from the list of energy suppliers. Don't have a supplier yet? Choose 'None due to relocation'.

3. Choose the type of energy you need

Choose between electricity and gas, electricity only, or gas only.

4. Enter your annual consumption or let us make an estimate

Check your last annual statement for how much electricity and/or gas you have consumed. Don't know this? Choose 'Help me estimate' and select the number of people in your household. We will then make an estimate of your expected annual consumption based on the size of your household. You can also indicate whether you have a dual & smart meter and have solar panels.

5. Compare the offers

View the overview of all energy deals. We've already sorted all the deals for you by the lowest price! Easily view the customer reviews & pros and cons of the suppliers in the overview to make a choice.

6. Choose a deal and switch directly

Choose the desired deal and start your application, making sure the costs are correct and enter your details.

7. You've switched!

Your application will be forwarded to your new energy supplier. This supplier will cancel your current contract so that your old and new contracts match up perfectly. On average, the switch is completed within 4 to 6 weeks.

We value sustainability. That's why the sustainable option you see on our website is genuinely sustainable. If you select 'show only sustainable products', you'll only see green energy contracts where the sustainable origin of your energy is guaranteed. The electricity is sustainably generated in the Netherlands, and the CO2 emissions from gas are compensated by, for example, planting trees and investing in sustainable energy projects.

Variable (variabel) or fixed prices (vast)? With a variable price the supplier can change the rate during your contract. Most suppliers change these rates twice a year, but they can change it more often if needed. A fixed rate will remain set for the duration of your contract. We recommend you choose the fixed (or 'vast') rate. This way you won't be surprised by any changes in the tariff. And you're comparing all suppliers on what you spend on a yearly basis. If you do not have a preference, you can leave it open.

Who monitors energy companies?

The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) is the regulator of the Dutch energy market. It issues licenses for the supply of energy and checks whether energy companies comply with the agreements.

As a consumer you are free to choose the supplier that fits your needs. With so many options, choosing the right energy supplier can become quite a task. That's where we come in place and help you with making a decision. We make sure you can filter on your preferences. Are you only interested in the lowest price? Comparing Energy Contracts

When comparing energy, you have the choice of three types of contracts. There are contracts with a fixed price, a variable price, or dynamic prices. We offer all three types of contracts in our comparison tool. This way, you can easily see what is attractive and available for you after the comparison. Check out the differences per type of contract:

Fixed energy contract

With a fixed energy contract, you set the rates for a certain period. This is usually 1, 3, or 5 years. You cannot cancel the contract during this period. If you do, you will pay a cancellation penalty. The rates cannot go up or down during the term of the contract, so you know exactly how much you will spend on energy costs monthly. Due to recent developments, hardly any fixed contracts are offered. It is expected that from April 2023, there will be more supply of fixed contracts.

Variable energy contract

A variable energy contract is a contract for an indefinite period. You can cancel this contract at any time, with a notice period of 30 days. In principle, the rates of this type of contract are adjusted twice a year; on January 1 and July 1. However, there are also suppliers that adjust the rates more often. One supplier adjusts the rates when necessary due to market movements, while other suppliers adjust the rates monthly by default. So, check the general terms and conditions to see how the supplier handles this. The supplier must communicate rate changes at least 30 days in advance so that you can switch to another supplier before the change takes effect.

Dynamic energy contract

With a dynamic contract, the prices move directly with the “spot market”. Energy suppliers buy electricity and gas on the spot market for the next day. If there is a decrease, you benefit immediately, but a price increase is also passed on directly. The electricity price differs every hour, the gas price every day. Your monthly amount can therefore vary greatly with this type of contract. Furthermore, just like with a variable contract, you are free to cancel your contract and switch to a new energy supplier at any time.
